Conover is the geographic center of Catawba County, sitting at about 1,020 feet where US 70, US 70A and NC 16 converge and I-40 runs straight through with four exits inside the city limits. The place began as a Y in the railroad and was known as Wye Town before it was chartered in 1876. Conover's Piedmont red clay holds water long after a storm has passed, and that one property does more to decide whether a pool settles than anything else on the site. We over-excavate, backfill the shell with clean washed stone instead of native clay, and route drainage away from the deck footprint before any concrete is placed.
Two jobs come up most often in Conover. The first is a pool-and-deck package on a newer subdivision lot toward Claremont, where the ground is flat and the build runs clean start to finish. The second is a slope job on an older parcel: pool at the high end, seat wall holding the grade behind it. The second costs more and takes longer, and we say so at the quote rather than at the dig.
Four I-40 exits inside one small city is a real advantage on install day. A fiberglass shell arrives whole on a lowboy and has to be lifted over or around the house, so the crane needs a staging pad and clear overhead reach. Wide frontage along the US 70 and NC 16 corridors usually gives us both. The older streets near the rail junction are a different proposition — mature oaks, narrow side yards — and those jobs get a site visit specifically to solve access before we will quote a date.
