The Foothills Pool Company is a custom fiberglass pool builder serving Sherrills Ford — Terrell, Catawba and Maiden are all within our regular run. Every Sherrills Ford build is installed by one crew — shell, concrete pool deck and hardscape — and starts with a free on-site quote.
Sherrills Ford sits at around 896 feet on the Catawba County side of Lake Norman, in the southeast corner of the county alongside Terrell, Monbo and Long Island. NC 150 crosses the southern end of the area, running about eleven miles east to Mooresville and seventeen west to Lincolnton. This is the most lake-driven market we serve, and lakefront building is genuinely different work from building on a flat subdivision lot.
The numbers explain why. Lake Norman holds a full pond of about 760 feet while the ground back from the shoreline runs well over 890, and that difference is spread across the lots in between. Grade is what makes the view here, and it is also what turns a pool into a structural project as much as a water one. On most builds out this way the pool sits on a bench cut into the slope with a retaining wall holding the high side, and the deck steps down toward the water rather than running level.
Lakefront work also comes with rules. Duke Energy manages the Lake Norman shoreline, and setback and buffer requirements apply to the strip of land between your house and the water. We build inside those lines and confirm exactly what applies to your specific lot before anything is designed, because relocating a pool after layout is not a small correction.
The signature Sherrills Ford job is a lakeside pool on a benched slope with a retaining wall, a stepped concrete pool deck running toward the water and an edge treatment that plays against the lake. The second is a straightforward pool set back on a flatter part of the lot, well inside the buffer, for owners who would rather keep the waterfront itself clear.
The other Sherrills Ford factor is what people actually want here. On a lake lot the pool is competing with the lake for attention, so the designs that work frame the view instead of blocking it — a vanishing or infinity edge facing the water, a tanning ledge for shallow lounging, low-profile LED lighting so the evening view survives. A raised spa spilling into the pool is a common request for exactly the same reason. Materials get chosen the same way: a deck finish that sits quietly against the water reads better from the house than a high-contrast pattern competing with it.
Whether you are on the shoreline south of NC 150, on a wooded lot set back from the water, or over toward Terrell, we will come and measure your Sherrills Ford project and give you an honest written quote at no cost. Talk to a swimming pool builder in Hickory who will check the lift path first and the wish list second.
Sherrills Ford is Lake Norman shoreline with the better part of a hundred feet of fall behind it, so we design inside Duke Energy's setbacks and bench the pool into the slope instead of fighting it.
We install the shell and pour the concrete pool deck ourselves instead of handing the hardscape to a second contractor.
